PC vs. Mac / Microsoft vs. Apple
The elders of the church are stepping down and retiring to their homes, one heavily guarded outside Redmond Washington and one in a quite Palo Alto California neighborhood. They have always seemed to be rivals split by business ethics and ideas of success which led them to head two of the biggest and greatest computer companies / software manufacturers that this world has ever seen.

Steve Jobs and Bill Gates both have 9 characters in their name, they created the computer scene roughly at the same time and they are leaving their perspective companies roughly at the same time. Jobs has not left yet (the day after I wrote this article Steve Jobs has sent notice of his leave of absence from CEO of Apple until June 2009 citing “health issues more complicated than expected”), but Gates retired from CEO of Microsoft at the first of the year with little publicity or fan fair.

These two corporate figure heads are, in my opinion, polar opposites in almost every way. In one we see a monopolistic computer / software manufacturer and its board of investors, in the other we see the exact same thing. Most know that these two don’t get along for some reason, but not sure why, maybe it is competition (?), and often overlook their odds to simply find the easiest machine to help make our daily lives easier at the best price possible.
PC’s often need updates, once a month.
- – Security issues and virus’ abound on any OS
- – Drivers and interchangeable internal devices allow for many users to do their own custom builds, leading to many security problems and a self degradation of computer potential and usability.
- – Governments, schools, and the average consumer can afford PC’s
Mac’s rarely need updates, once a year.
- Until Mac’s used Microsoft software there were virtually no security issues for Mac’s
- Elite industries, artists and designers prefer Apple products and security for the reliability and ease of use to produce product.
- Prices for Macintosh computers have been 3x higher than that of a PC. Well worth it in time saved not fooling with updates and system problems alone.
